Hampshire can rightly lay claim to having some of the very best chalk stream fly fishing in the UK.
It is here that the dry fly havens of the Rivers Test and Itchen flow.
As well as fantastic fishing, the region is stepped in fishing history. It was here that the “father of modern British fishing” Izaak Walton penned his classic book, “The Compleat Angler” in the 17th Century. For visitors on a fishing pilgrimage, Walton’s tomb is in Silkstead Chapel of Winchester Cathedral. Winchester is the county capital of Hampshire.
It was on the banks of the River Test that F. M. Halford refined his techniques and theories which modern dry fly fishing is based. G. E. M. Skues, also came up with the concept of nymph fishing on the Itchen.
