Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 20 bore on Partridge

I have decided to go with my light Beretta 20 bore field gun for tomorrow’s opener on partridge on the Carington Estate situated in the heart of the Chiltern Hills near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

Carington Estate is a family run shoot dating back to the mid 19th Century.

The first entry in the family Game Book is dated the 28th October 1869, when the Prince of Wales (who later became King Edward VII) was the principal guest and the bag was recorded as a total of 446.
The Game Book also records there were 12 Kangaroos in the coverts (which were not shot!)

It is set up with Improved and Half chokes using 28gm No6 as I am not expecting towering birds this early in the season.

Rain and wind forecast for tomorrow so the birds may have the edge on the Guns especially seeing it will be the first day of shooting this season for most of the syndicate.

Wish us luck. I shall report on how proceedings went.
